After retiring from the army, Mark took his leadership and technology expertise into the Information Technology field spending years expanding his skill set. He’s worked for startups, technology companies, international defense projects, and more.

With his military background, Mark brings a unique perspective and set of experiences that have made him invaluable within the technology industry. Currently, he is retired and enjoys investing time in personal interests.

Mark Birdsill didn’t delay in finding his place as a civilian. Before the internet become mainstream and as a soldier, he’d taken an interest in computer systems and was a computer bulletin board hobbyist during his army years.

He quickly utilized his veteran’s education benefits and earned his Network Administration degree, followed by multiple professional certifications in information systems and security. This gave him the qualifications needed to quickly find his place in the exploding information technology industry around Spokane, WA.

He began his second career as a Systems Engineer for a regional company and finished as Director of Information Technology for an international software company. Much of his professional career has been in government contexts. Consequently, Mark has extensive experience operating as a leader, in management as well as, classified information systems, intellectual property and compliance standards.

Throughout his roles, Mark Birdsill has built a portfolio of increasingly sought-after skills. He has designed security infrastructure and high availability for network and system application platforms. He’s also designed and managed access controls, disaster recovery, security programs, trained staff, road mapping, continuing improvement and more. He’s earned Microsoft, Security, Network, Linux and VMWare professional certifications.

After obtaining security clearances with the Department of Defense and State Department for a role in Iraq, he contracted for 1st Special Forces Group. His next contract was in Afghanistan during the war, with a team of experts involving classified networks and systems. He worked primarily out of Bagram Airbase and Camp Leatherneck while independently handling projects in support of JIEDDO for Joint Special Operations Command. 

Things such as artificial intelligence keep him interested in the field, even in retirement. His technological interests have integrated with his personal pursuits, especially in terms of investing. He loves the process of investing for income and is interested in how artificial intelligence technology is becoming an integral tool for investors.

Even in his retirement, Mark Birdsill keeps busy. His hobbies include writing blogs, expanding his history knowledge, exploring new places, and riding motorcycles. Even though he isn’t currently working in the professional world, he still strives to keep up with the latest trends and developments.

Mark continues serving his community. He was a volunteer firefighter for two years and supports multiple charities. He enjoys supporting the National Parents Organization, Vanessa Behan, an orphanage and his local church.
